Boosting Infant Health: The Role of Clinical Trials in Formula Development

At Altus Clinical Research in Lake Worth, FL, and Laurel, MS, our mission is to advance infant health by supporting the development of safe, effective nutrition options for babies. Today, we’re sharing how clinical trials contribute to the creation of high-quality infant formulas and how local families can get involved.

Why Participate in Infant Formula Clinical Trials?

Infant formula clinical trials are essential for ensuring that new formulas meet strict safety and nutritional standards. Before any formula becomes available to families, it must demonstrate that it supports healthy growth and development in infants. By participating in a clinical trial, parents can help shape the future of infant nutrition while receiving valuable support and compensation.

What Does Participation Involve?

Altus Clinical Research is currently enrolling participants for a clinical study that offers:

  • No-cost infant formula for up to 6 months
  • Up to $300 in compensation
  • 6 supervised visits over 16 weeks

If you are an expectant mother (35 weeks or more) or have an infant younger than 10 days old, you may qualify for this study.

How It Works

  1. Apply Online: Complete a brief pre-screening form. Eligible participants will receive instructions to download the study app.
  2. Feed Your Baby: Participants are randomly assigned to receive one of several study formulas or a standard cow milk formula, provided at no cost.
  3. Monitor Growth: Over 16 weeks, you’ll attend scheduled visits so a study doctor can measure your baby’s growth and check on their progress. Daily tasks can be completed from home using the study app.

Why Are These Studies Important?

The primary goal is to show that babies fed the study formula grow at the same healthy rate as those fed standard formulas or breast milk. These studies are required by the FDA before new formulas can be introduced to the U.S. market. Your participation directly supports the advancement of safe, effective nutrition for future generations.

What Are the Benefits?

  • Free formula for up to 6 months
  • Up to $300 in compensation
  • Complimentary two-month supply of formula for families who complete the study
